Response to Position 10 - All perimeter grade level doors will be so supervised by fuel loading. All other fire doors will be locally alarmed. A IJght will i==ediately flash when the door is opened followed 10 =inutes later by an audible alarm in the area unless the door is closed within that ti=e peried.

The local alarms will be installed as soon as available during unscheduled cutages or no later than the end of the first refueling.

A sign will be posted on each door indicating the need to keep it closed.

All doors have automatic closers, many with industry accepied hold open features designed to close due to a fire in the area.

Safety related areas of the plant are toured on a frequr:nt basis by auxiliary operators as they perform their nor=al duties. These personnel would hear audible locau alarms if they should be sounding.

Contidering all of the above and the fact that the likelihood of a tire actually occurring is small, there ir, little, if anything, to be gained by electrically supervising over 1G3 fire doors frc= one constantly mennad area.

We consider that the above modifications meet the intent of the NRC's concern and should be aa acceptable alternate Lo the position as stated.

Response to Position 10 - All peri =eter grade level doors will be so supervised by fuel loading. All other fire doors 11 be locally alarmed. A light will i==ediately f 'sh when the door is opened followed 10 minutes later by an audible alarm in the area unless the door is closed within that ti=e pericd.

The local alarms will be installed as soon as available during unscheduled outages or no later than the end of the first refueling.

A sign will be posted on each door indicating the need to keep it closed.

All doors have automatic closers, many with industry accepted hold open features designed to close due to a fire in the area.

Safety related areas of the plant are toured on a frequent basis by auxiliary operators as they perform their nor=al duties.

These personnel would hear audible local alarms if they should be sounding.

Considering all of the above and the fact that the likelihood of a fire actually occurring is small, there is little, if anything, to be gained by electrically supervising over 100 fire doors from one constantly

=anned area.

We consider that the above =odifications =eet the intent of the NRC's concern and should be an acceptable alternate to the position as stated.
