Gentlemen:

In our submittal of December 5,1979, concerning Lessons Learned (NUREG 0578 requirements, we proposed to stagger the shutdowns which would be necessary )

to implement the short term items for Units 1 and 2 of Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO). The reasons for the proposal were provbed.

We are now modifying the shutdown schedule presented in that December 5 submit-tal in an effort to meet your guidelines 'or acceptable implementation dates.

ANO-1 will be shut down on December 31, 1979, (short term) Lessons Learned requirements and will not be restarted untilto implem implementation exception of those items (with one e<ception) is complete.

is as follows: The one Recommendation 2.1.3.b - Additional Instrumentation for Detection of Inadequate Core Cooling A recommendation for additional instrumentation to detect inadequate core cooling will be provided no later than January 31, 1980. The schedule for receipt of this recommendation has been improved to allow minimal time for our review prior to submittal on or before January 31, p.

1980.

Due to the effort required for this generic program and the many other high priority projects requiring utilization vi B&W personnel, this recomendation will not be available by January 1,1980.
