Docket No. 50-309 Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company ATTN: Mr. Robert H. Groce Licensing Engineer 20 Turnpike Road Westboro, flassachusetts 01581 Gentlemen:
IE Bulletin No. 79-02 (Revision No.1), " Pipe Support Base Plate Designs Using Concrete Expansion Anchor Bolts," dated June 21, 1979, described two sampling methods for testing that could be used.
It stated that other sampling methods may be used but must be justified.
It was indicated that if a sampling program was used, it should be done on a system by system basis.
Maine Yankee responses to this Bulletin dated July 5, July 12 and October 11, 1979 do not contain justification or describe the sampling program used.
Please provide that justification as a part of the thirty day response required by Bulletin 79-02, Revision 2 (response required by December 8,1979).
Included in your justification should be a listing of the total number of anchor bolts per system and the number sampled by system.
The principle criterion that your sample testing program must satisfy is that it shall assure each Seismic Category I piping system will perform its intended function.
Please include in your response the statistical basis for your sampling program and an explanation of how this criterion has been met.
