NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555 NOV I.9;g79 MEMORANDUM FOR:
K. Kniel, Chief, Core Performance Branch, DSS FROM:
M. Dunenfeld, Core Performance Branch, DSS
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF DUKE POWER, WESTINGHOUSE, BNL AND NRC MEETING - OCTOBER 30, 1979 A meeting was held on October 30, 1979 in Bethesda between the subject participants to discuss modified load follow strategy-constant axial offset control (CAOC) procedures proposed for the McGuire Nuclear Station. A list of meeting attendees is enclosed. The purpose was to have Westinghouse present the details of the new CAOC procedures. This was needed because a proposed response to our question on this matter was inadequate, and we judged the presentation would expedite our being able to reach agreement with the applicant on what is needed to complete our review.
(Task 13 on the McGuire review schedule).
2 Upon hearing the presentation it was clear to us that we needed a sub-stantial report on the subject in order to perform our review. Westinghouse agreed to provide the required material in the form of a letter report from Nestinghouse to K. Kniel, hopefully in 1979, but no later than the end of January 1980. This would consist of the slides and verbal part of the presentation, the latter yet having to be written up.
In addition it would include exposition of all the load follow cases analyzed (not just the usual subset), a discussion of the controls used to vary the reactor temperature, and, dependent upon further discussion with J. Rosenthal and M. Dunenfeld, results of three dimensional calculations to show separability of x-y and z aspects of the calculational model.
Pending timely receipt of the letter report and the satisfactory nature of its contents, we agreed that no new questions on this matter would be asked on the McGuire docket. Duke Power will reference the letter report to satisfy the outstanding question on McGuire.
