TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY CH ATTANOC GA. TENNESSEE 37401 400 Chestnut Street Tower II November 19, 1979 Mr. James . O'Reilly, Director Office of pectic.u and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear gulatory Commission Region II - S te 310 101 Marietta S eet Atlanta, Georgi 30303

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

SEQUOYAh NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 - ICE CONDENSER EEAT LOADS EXCEED DESIGN HEAT LOADS - NCR NEB 79 SECOND INTERIM REPORT The subject deficiency was initially reported to NRC-0IE Inspector G. A. Belisle on August 14, 1979, in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55(e).

A first interim report was submitted on September 11, 1979.

TVA's investigation has revealed that the ice condenser heat loads in the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant may be higher than the design heat loads.

TVA believes that additional cooling capacity will be required to ensure that design temperatures are maintained in the ice condensers under all conditions. At present, TVA is pursuing the procurement of additional glycol chilling capacity for the ice condensers at Sequoyah.

We expect to submit our next report by January 28, 1980.
