Docket No. 50-471 pV p

N Gentlemen:

e In the "NRC Staff Motion to Defer Issue of Emergency Planning and to Establish Schedule for Filing Proposed Findings on Completed Issues",

the Staff offered to give a status report on the review of the emergency planning for the proposed Pilgrim Unit 2.

At this time, the Staff is not able to give you a detailed status report because the individuals responsible for the review were not available to provide the report.

A report on this subject will be submitted by the end of this week.

In order to keep you informed about the progress of this application, I am providing to you information concerning recent Commission and Staff actions which have an impact on this proceeding.

Enclosed is a copy of the Commission's " Interim Statement of Policy and Procedure" which sets forth the Comission's policy that it will review all new construction permits and that all adjudicatory proceedings should continue.

On October 10, 1979 a letter was sent to the Applicants in this case on the subject of " Followup Actions Resulting from the NRC Staff Review Regarding the Three Mile Island Unit 2 accident."

In the letter, the Staff requires the Applicants to commit to implement the actions con-tained in "TMI-2 Lessons Learned Task Force Status Report and Short-term Recommendations " (NUREG-0578) as modified and/or supplemented by the letter. The letter also identifies areas related to emergency planning which the Applicants are required to implement. NUREG-0578
