20545 In the Matter of Metropolitan Edison Company Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 Docket No. 50-289

Dear Mr. McCool:

This is in response to a letter dated July 7,1972 from Frank R. Clokey, Special Assistant Attorney General for the Comonwealth of Pennsylvania, requesting an extension of time until September 7,1972 for the Comonwealth to file a petition for leave to intervene in the captioned proceeding.

Mr. Clokey states that a petition would be filed only if, after review of the Applicant's environmental report and the AEC Regulatory Staff draft detailed statement, such action Mr. Clckey explains in his letter that appears necessary.

the request for additional time is necessitated by the involvement of staff of the Comonwealth Department of Environmental Resources in more pressing activities resulting from the effects of the recent hurricane.

The AEC Regulatory Staff recommends granting the requested extension since we believe good cause has been shown for it We have contacted counsel for the Applicant to be granted.

and he has informed us that the Applicant does not object to the granting of this specific request.

Sincerely, s
