'Ihree Mile Island Operating License
Dear Sir:
Thin refers to the mine 29, 1972 advico of sutznission to the Office of the Fcdcral Eerjister a notico for hearing in the mtter of the issuance of a facility operating license which would authorize Metropolitan Edison Cmpany and Jersey-Central Power & Light Ccmpany, and Pennsylvania Electric Ccnpany, as co-licensees, to possess, use, and operate the,Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit I in Dauphin Countg, Pennsylvania (Docket No. 50-289).
As you my know, the Ccnnonwealth of Pennsylvania has recently experienced a disastrous flood in the wake of hurricane Agnes, which has caused a substantial fraction of the technical staff of the Depart-nnnt of Envirormental Resources to be rightfully engaged in activities which mitigate the effects of the disaster. 'Ihe consequence of this activity mkes us, tcmporarily, unable to exantine, review, generate ccnments, and fonmilate a position on the applicants' Envirorvnental ik: port, as amendcx.1, and the Ccmnission's Draft Detailed Statcment, within the 30 day thna frame allowed to file a request for hearing and petition to intervene in the proceedings, should this action beccme necessary as a result of the review. In any event, we are desirous of protecting our right to participate in any and all procc%s on this docket and we, therefore, respectfully request that the deadline for filing a rquest for hearing and petition to intervene be extended for the Comonwalth of Pennsylvania so as to coincide with the dead-line for sulznission of conments on the EnviIormantal Report and Draft ) F ^' nJ/d }64
