Dear Mr. Giambusso :
In your recent letter of January 11, 1974, you requested additional information concerning the Structural Integrity Test of the Reactor Building for Unit #1 as follows:
1.
Describe the procedure which will be used to observe the behavior of the girder during the Reactor Building Integrity Test; this procedure should cover at leas t the observation of deformations, stresses and cracking patterns.
2.
Confirm or clarify your intent to provide a comparison with predicted deformations, stress ar.d/or strain values before pre-stressing, during prestressing, and during and after the Integrity Test along with a discussion of any discrepancies between the predicted and observed values.
In response to your first request, we have previously submitted to you Appendix SE (Arundment 44) to the FSAR entitled " Structural Integrity Testing of the Reactor Building Structure." Appendix SE describes the deformation measurements, strain gage readings and crack observations, which include the ring girder surveillance additions, that will be made during the Integrity Test. This data N lg will be analyzed and documented in a report as described in Section

9 of Appendix SE.

Concerning your second request, we confirm that we intend to provide a complete evaluation of the data taken during the Structural Integrity Test comparing it with predicted values.
Included in the Integrity Test report will be specific discussion on the ring girder.
Data accumulated during ring girder surveillance carried out prior to prestressing, during pre-stressing and during and af ter the Integrity Test will be evaluated. Any discrepancies with predicted values will be discussed in the report.
The basic format for the Structural Integrity Test has not changed from the original submittal of Appendix 5E.
Appendix 5E has been discussed with members of the DRL staff in detail.
In addition to the information requested in the January 11, 1974 letter, we were asked to provide a Comparison of our proposed Structural Integrity Test and Regulatory Guide 1.18.
This request was made by Mr. Robert Be rnero of your staf f during a January 15, 1974 meeting held at the Three FEle Island site.
The Comparison is included as Attachment No. 1.
