On the basis of our continuing review of the Final Safety Analysis Report for Three Mila Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1, we find that we need additional information to complete our evaluation. The specific informa-tien required is an anx. lysis of a double-ended break in the line that connecta a core flooding tank (CFI) to the reactor vessel. The location of this break should be between the reactor vessel nozzle and the first check valve leading to the CPT. This analysis should be conducted using the evaluation model approved under the Interim Policy Statement, Appendix A, Part 4.
In order to maintain oar licensing review schedule, we will need a com-plately adequate response by August 14, 1972. Please inform us within 7 days after receipt of this letter of your confirmation of the schedule or the date you will be able to meet. If you cannot meet our specified date or if your reply is not fully responsive to our requests, it is highly likely that the overall schedule for completing the licensing review for this project will have to be extended. Since reassignment of the staff's efforts will require coupletion of the new assignment prior to returning to this project, the extent of extension will most likely be greater than the extent of delay in your response.
