Dear Mr. Liebler:

j

~

t As part of the current effort to develop improved guidelines for handling potential small break loss-of-coolant accidents, Combustion Engineering,

[

through the C-E Owner's Group, is perfoming computer calculations to j

assess the course of such events. The results of the computer programs used in these analyses, however, have only been compared to limited experimental data. The result;s of these evaluations, therefore, are j

not conclusive-and further verification with experimental data is required.

r Accordingly, it is requested that the results of the recent "Semiscale Small Break Experiment" (S-07-10B) be compared with the small break computer program being used by C;E-in support of the Owner's Group.

j To be useful in this current effort, this work should be completed b/

[

approximately September 1,1979.

j-This request provides further clarification of item number 3 of the enclosure to our letters to "All Operating Combustion Engineering Plants" I-dated June 5,1979. The test details necessary to perfom these calcu-lations have been previously forwarded to Combustion Engineering.

If i

further infomation regarding the cited experiment is required, please i

contac't Mr L. E. Phillips at (301) 492-7588.

I L

Sincerely,

! I F
