Dear Mr. Short:
In the Safety Evaluation Report (SER) for fire protection supporting Amendment No. 40 to Facility Operating License No. DPR-40 for the Fort Calt.oun Station, Unit No.1, Alternate Safe Shutdown Capability was identified as a modification for which additional infomation was required in Section 3.1.21.
To expedite the ccepletion of our review of this item, we are enclosing cur position entitled,
" Safe Shutdcwn Capability". Section 8 of this docunent specifies the in#cmation we require to complete cur review. Su'ficient infomation should be provided to allow us to independently perfom the verifications indicated. Please provide this infomation within 60 days of the date of this letter. If some of the infor-mation is already available in a previous submittal, yod need only reference that material. When you submit your safe shutdown analysis ano detailed design of proposed safe shutdcwn system, you should use the enclosed dccument for guidance in meeting our fire protection criteria.
