This refers to telephone discussions between Mr. C. W. Fay and Mr. D. C.
Boyd of this office on July 3, 1979, regarding your program for the review, analysis, and repair of the cracks found in your Unit 2 steam generator nozzle-to-feedwater pipe welds.
The NRC interest and concern in this matter are substantial. There is a particular interest in assuring that the cause(s) for these failures is analyzed for consideration in the repair and corrective actions program.
It is our understanding that Point Beach Unit 2 will remain shutdown until:
1.
The repair program and corrective actions have been reviewed with the NRC.
2.
All pertinent information available from the licensee's investiga-tion into the pipe cracking problem have been made available for NRC review.
NRR is aware of, and in agreement with, the above requirements and will be available for this review at your earliest convenience.
Please inform us immediately if your understanding of these items is different from that stated above.
