MINUTES OF AUGUST 23, 1979 MEETING GN CONTAINMENT PURGING Subject meeting was held in Bethesda, Maryland to discuss containment purge valve and vent valve designs, purge operating requiremencs and purge electrical override circuitry. Enclosure 1 identifies participants at this meeting.
OPPD personnel agreed to provide certain infomation on an expedited basis by phone. Subsequent to the meeting OPPD provided that infonnatinn as follows:
- 1) The radiar:an monitoring equipment in the containment building is not, nor was it intended to be, safety grade.
- 2) There is one switch for each of the four containment purge valves.
- 3) Typical radioactivity levels in the reactor coolant system are:
Iodine-131 equivalent is 2.476 X 10-2 microcuries/gm Iodine-131 is 1.34 X 10-2 microcuries/gm Total Iodine is 1.5 X 10-I microcuries/gm Total activity is 3.53 microcuries/gm.
- 4) The hours of containment purging in " Hot Standby" or " Power Operation" have been as follows:

Minutes of 8/23/79 Meeting on Containment Purging The NRC staff discussed our guidance on " Demonstration of Operability of Purge and Vent Valves Under Accidant Conditions" guidance on safety signal requirements for purge and ventilation valves and questions from the NRC Plant Systems Branch cn OPPD responses relative to the " Branch Technical Position" on containment purging (BTP 6-4).
OPPD provided " Data for Containment Purge and Vent Valve Assemblies (Enclosure 2).
No electrical override problems with the Fort Calhoun containment purging system were identified at the meeting in a preliminary review of the electrical prints.
