Dear Sir:

I as a member of an Environmental Awareness class.

Siace enrol. cant I have become quite aware and concerned about our environment.

!'uclear Power is one of my greatest concerns.

I realize that.ithcu.

auclear power our country would be in the middle of a great energy crisis.

I also realize the great extent of damage the radiation. from the radioce__.

material, that results from the work done within the core e, the reactor, could do to our environment if an accident happens.

  • have studied both sides of the issue and have decided that.: Le

-v duty as a citizen of the United States of America to try to postpenc :uelear power until a safe and permanent disposal for the radioactive natarial is fo un d.

A week or so ago a DC-10 f rom the American Airlines crashed c'. e a hea" populated area killing 275 people. Because of this the ucve: mant has 2:opped the airline from flying any more DC-10's until tha

Early this year there was a very dan crous nuclear accident at L.M Thres-!!ile-Island Nuclear Power Plant. The reason for this accider t

I will agree that a nuc12ar accident has not directly killed even ona person.

I repeat, "NOT DIRECTLY." Lab tests have shown cancer in many pece!e. A survey was done and a high percent of the people had one thing in common; they all worked in or aear a plant having to do with Nucicar Power. Fifty pregnant women lived in a certain town.

In one year 407. of them had miscarrages. Why the abnormally high percentage? No one can really say, but there was nuclear wastc stored in the town.

Something has got to be done about the storage of nuclear waste.

We cannot allow such things to happen to our environment.

It is the older generation that will decide what happens to the ::uclear Plants! Will the plants be shut down until safe storage is found? Or will they be allowed to keep dumping " Death" upon the country?

It is not the older generation that will have to live with.ne rad-lacion.

It is my generation, today's youth, that will see the genetic changes, the explosion of cancer and the increased death race'.

We will have to live with it, not you.

For the sake of the young Americans the Nuclear waste must be taken care ofi If you have any inforcation about Nuclear Power Plants that might help 'y generation I shall be pleased to receive it.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours, Jenny Lenz, Student Thurston High School
