AUC 151973 Dr. Don A. Emerson Professor & Acting Department Head Department of Biology Frostburg State College Frostburg, fiarylard 21532 Daar Dr. Emerson:
Your letter of July 25, 1979 to Chairman Hendrie was referred to me for reply.
Your question regarding radiological effects on salt water invertebrates is best answered by referral to the enclosed NRC staff report entitled,
" LIQUID PATHWAY GENERIC STUDY", NUREG-0440.
Section 5, " Ecological Considerations", beginnirg on page 5-1, contains a detailed discussion of radiological impacts on marine organisms.
I feel confident that it will provide the infomation you require.
Also enclosed is a copy of the Calvert Cliffs Final Environmental State-ment. Although the statement was prepared in 1973, the radiological analysis is still valid.
In Section V.D. beginning on page V-26, there is a discussion of the potential impact on man associated with atmospheric and hydrologic releases of radioactivity.
In Section V.C., page V-8, there is also a brief discussion of the biological impact associated with Calvert Cliffs operation.
As you will note, the impacts on man and biota other than man associated with nomal Calvert Cliffs operation are expected to be insignificant and unobservable.
Sincerely, i
\\'
