Dear Mr. Pilant:
By your letter dated June 28, 1979 you provided design information on specific fire protection modifications for Cooper Nuclear Station. We have reviewed your submittal and have reached the following conclusions:
1.
Sprinkler Protection for Cable Chase in Turbine Generator Building (SER item 3.6)
Acceptable as proposed 2.
Fire Pump Discharge Header Isolation Valve (SER item 3.27)
Acceptable as proposed 3.
Fixed Foam Fire Protection and Wet Pipe Sprinkler System for Diesel-Driven Fire Pump (SER item 3.3.1)
The detection system should be designed to assure that the foam system is activated prior to actuation of the backup sprinkler system.
If the heads for the sprinkler system are to be located only 2.5 feet apart, then a baffle should be placed between the heads to assure proper distribution of spray.
If the design does indeed consider these two factors, then we find it acceptable.
You should complete these modifications in accordance with the schedule contained in Table 3.1 of the Safety Evaluation Supporting Amendment No. 56 to DPR-46.
