FIllAL STAFF EVALUATION OF TOPICAL REPORT SSCO-15215, " CONTAINMENT SPRAYING NUZZLES FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS" The Staff has completed its evaluation of the subject topical report on your Whirljet spray nozzle.
The topical report details the testing and data evalu-ation of spray nozzle perfomance pertaining to spray coverage and spray par-ticle size and distribution. Our evaluation is enclosed.
Based on our review, we cont.lude that the topical report is acceptable for referencing in nuclear power plant license applications.
However, we will require that applicants referencing this topical report (1) relate the spatial drop distribution produced by the spray nozzles to the heat and radiciodine removal capability of the spray system, and (2) provide information to demon-strate that the screens used to prevent debris from entering the containment spray system sump are sufficient to preclude clogging of the spray nozzles.
A copy of this letter and its enclosure should be included in the front of the final revision to your report.
This final revision should incorporate and update all additional submissions not yet incorporated into the basic report.
Twenty-five copies of this fb il revision should be sent to the staff within sixty days.
