Third Interim Notification per 10 CFR Part 21 July 5, 2019 Degraded Snubber SF1154 Hydraulic Fluid Batch No. ZJS1518 This letter is a follow up to our interim notification letter dated May 6, 2019 pertaining to the above subject.

  • The following table reflects the status of US nuclear plants and other facilities to which Sf 1154 fluid from Batch ZJS1518 was shipped by Lake Engineering Company (LEC) in accordance with purchase orders which specified that the requirements of 1 O CFR Part 21 are applicable.

Three Mile Island Fluid used in one safety related snubber No substantial safety hazards Nine Mile Point Fluid used in one safety related snubber No substantial safety hazards Clinton Fluid used in some installed snubbers No substantial safety hazards Point Beach Unit 2 Fluid used in one safety related snubber Evaluation ongoing Duane Arnold Fluid used in some installed snubbers No substantial safety hazards Wyle Laboratories 1 Use status to be determined by facility Evaluation ongoing Palisades 2 Fluid used in one safety related snubber No substantial safety hazards 1

Currently National Technical Systems (NTS) 2 Fluid was originally provided to Fronek Anchor/Darling Enterprises where it was used in a Bergen-Paterson snubber that was then shipped to Palisades Station.

Lake Engineering Company shall continue In its evaluation to determine whether the subject anomalies represent defects which could create a substantial safety hazard. Determination in this regard shall continue to involve interaction between Lake Engineering Company and the facilities listed above.

Our goal is to complete our evaluation by September 3, 2019 at which time a determination will have been made as to whether a substantial safety hazard exists. If additional time is required for the above determination, an interim report shall be submitted that shall include an updated completion date.
