UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 August 13, 2019 The Honorable Brian P. Kemp Governor of Georgia The Office of the Governor 1203 State Capitol Atlanta, GA 30334

Dear Governor Kemp:

On behalf of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, I extend our congratulations to the State of Georgia on its 50th anniversary of becoming an Agreement State. On December 9, 1969, Governor Lester Maddox entered into an Agreement with the Atomic Energy Commission to assume regulatory responsibility for certain radioactive materials under Section 274 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended. This made Georgia the 21 st State to become an Agreement State, effective December 15, 1969.

We commend the State on its successful efforts throughout the years in regulating the safe use of radioactive materials in Georgia, thereby protecting public health and safety. We encourage your continued support of the important services provided by the Agreement State Program.

We wish you continued success with your program and look forward to our agencies continuing to work cooperatively in the future. Please extend our congratulations to the staff and management of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Radioactive Materials Program for their successful implementation of the Georgia Agreement State Program.
