SUMMARY

OF A PUBLIC MEETING WITH SOUTHERN NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY ON APRIL 18, 2019 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 1 public meeting with Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) on April 18, 2019. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues associated with the safety review of licensing actions for SNCs Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP) Units 3 and 4.

The meeting notice can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML19074A014. The meeting notice is also posted on the NRC public website. J. Dixon-Herrity Summary of Meeting:

On April 18, 2019, staff from the NRC conducted a public meeting with representatives from SNC to discuss issues associated with the safety review of licensing actions for SNCs VEGP Units 3 and 4. Specifically, the meeting discussed SNCs planned LAR for crediting previously completed ADS blowdown first three plant tests performed at AP1000 plants in China to the VEGP Units 3 and 4.

SNC briefed their presentation to the staff. The staff asked clarifying questions and advised SNC that they expected to perform an audit of the various test and quality assurance reports referred to in the draft LAR. SNC stated that only a combined license condition and specific Updated Final Safety Analysis Report Chapter 14 information will be affected by this LAR, and that no inspections, tests, analyses, and acceptance criteria will be impacted.

SNC also stated that they planned to submit the LAR by April 30, 2019, and specified a requested approval date of October 30, 2019. The staff inquired about whether the requested date could be extended to November 30, 2019.

The meeting included a closed session to discuss proprietary aspects of the LAR.

At the conclusion of the open session of the meeting, there was an opportunity for the public to provide comments and ask questions. There were no comments or questions from the public.
