Mike, By letter dated May 2, 2017 (ML17122A116), as supplemented by letters dated July 20, 2017 (ML17201Q132), November 21, 2017 (ML17325A588), July 10, 2018 (ML18192A002), December 3, 2018 (ML18337A277), and April 8, 2019 (ML19099A046),

Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (Duke Energy, the licensee), requested an amendment to the Renewed License Nos. NPF-9 and NPF-17 for McGuire Nuclear Station (MNS), Units 1 and

2. The proposed amendment would revise the MNS Technical Specifications 3.8.1, AC

[Alternating Current] Sources - Operating, to allow the extension of the Completion Time for an inoperable emergency diesel generator from 72 hours8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
to 14 days, and to ensure that at least one train of shared components has an operable emergency power supply. To support the extended 14-day CT request, MNS would add an emergency supplemental power source with the capability to power any emergency bus. The proposed changes to TS 3.8.1 in the December 3, 2018 letter superseded the proposed TS 3.8.1 changes in the May 2, 2017, November 21, 2017, and July 10, 2018 letters.

The Electrical Engineering Operating Reactor Branch (EEOB) staff has reviewed the information provided by the licensee. The staff has concluded that the proposed amendment is acceptable. This email and the safety evaluation (attached and in ADAMS at ML19091A194) complete our review and evaluation efforts for this LAR.
