I am a very concerned citizen living within the 50-mile radiation zone of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Covert, MI. Palisades, an older and degrading Plant, is potentially slated for start-up of decommissioning in 2022. I am worried about its current operation and the decommissioning process. MI has had 2 decommissioning processes at Big Rock and Fermi 1.
Palisades and DC Cook have a total of 3 reactors which all sit on the shores of our Lake Michigan and there are 6 total on it. This Great Lake provides drinking water for millions.
For these reasons and because there are upwards of one million citizens in SW Michigan, we are a key location for 1 of the 10 meetings to discuss best practices for citizen involvement.
Potential meeting locations could be: Lake Michigan College in South Haven, MI, just a couple of miles north of Palisades and Van Buren Conference Center in Lawrence, MI.
I look forward to attending a meeting in SW Michigan.
