Questions asked during exam administration that required contacting the Chief Examiner and the subsequent resolutions are noted below.
For Question 12:
An applicant asked about step 5 of ECA-0.0 because that is above step 13, which is the context for adjusting pressure in the A Steam generator. In step 5 RNO it states to adjust pressure to 1000psig and in this context there would be no correct answer. The licensee recommended adding to the stem that B, C, and D SG ASDs have not been adjusted to ensure that they work only with the step 13 values of ECA-0.0, which are the answer and three distractor choices. The NRC Chief Examiner agreed with this recommendation. The licensee then wrote this information on the board and informed the class. None of the applicants had left the room so they were all given this updated information prior to exam completion.
For Question 47:
An applicant asked for the noun names of the four bus power supply choices. The licensee recommended putting those on the board because those are usually given and the NUREG has guidance that the noun descriptions should be placed after the bus names. The NRC Chief Examiner agreed with this recommendation. The licensee then wrote this information on the board and informed the class. None of the applicants had left the room so they were all given this updated information prior to exam completion.
For Question 87:
An applicant asked what ESFAS function are you asking about in the two choices A and C.
The licensee thought the stem was clear with the P-11 ESFAS function but to increase clarity they recommended putting the word this into the part two aspect of A and C so it reads as follows:
to ensure shutdown actions are initiated in the event of a complete loss of this ESFAS function The red font for this was not used during the exam (colored in red to show the stem change for the Adams upload for clarity). The NRC Chief Examiner agreed with this recommendation. The licensee then wrote this information on the board and informed the class. None of the applicants had left the room so they were all given this updated information prior to exam completion. This question still had a high miss rate even with the clarifying information and the licensee determined this to be a weakness in training material during the post-exam reviews.
