Dear Mr. Boyd:

I riote on page 5, paragraph 4, of NUREG-0050, Recomrnenda tions Related to Browns Ferry Fire, that 11 the fire detectors installed in the control room were of the ionization type which did not detect the products of combustion generated by the cable fire and did not alarm.n Could you tell me if it has been determined whether the detectors installed in the Salem Nuclear Generating Station, which I understand are also of the ionization type, are sensitive to the products of combustion of the cables used in that plant.
