OF THE SEPTEMBER 4, 2018, CATEGORY 1 PUBLIC TELECONFERENCE TO DISCUSS TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION POTENTIAL PHASE 2 OPEN ITEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NUSCALE POWER, LLC DESIGN CERTIFICATION APPLICATION The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a Category 1 public teleconference on September 4, 2018, to discuss technical specification potential Phase 2 open items associated with the NuScale Power, LLC (NuScale) design certification application. Participants included personnel from NuScale and members the general public.

The public meeting notice dated September 4, 2018, can be found in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management Systems under Accession No. ML18243A103. This meeting notice was also posted on the NRC public website.

U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION OVERVIEW OF THE SEPTEMBER 4, 2018, TELECONFERENCE TO DISCUSS TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION POTENTIAL PHASE 2 OPEN ITEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NUSCALE POWER, LLC DESIGN CERTIFICATION APPLICATION The purpose of this teleconference was to discuss newly identified technical specification potential Phase 2 open items associated with the NuScale Power, LLC (NuScale) design certification application. The twelve (12) issues discussed were submitted to the applicant prior to the teleconference to facilitate the discussion (U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC)

Agencywide Documents Access and Management Systems Accession No. ML18274A071).

a. The following is the summary of the outcome of the meeting:
  • The NRC staff intends to issue new requests for additional information (RAIs) for Issues 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, and 12. These will be Phase 2 Safety Evaluation open items.
  • The NRC staff will send editorial comments for NuScale consideration in Revision 2.
  • The NRC staff will follow up on Issue 7 with Chapter 15 reviewers and follow up with NuScale.
  • The NRC staff will discuss with NuScale existing RAI responses that it considers require supplemental response for closure.
b. Next Step: The NRC staff will issue new as well as followup RAIs that will be Phase 2 safety evaluation open items.
