SUMMARY
OF AUGUST 15, 2018, CLOSED MEETING WITH FRAMATOME INC. AND LIGHTBRIDGE CORPORATION TO INTRODUCE ENFISSION LLC On August 15, 2018, a closed meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff, Framatome Inc. (Framatome), and Lightbridge Corporation (Lightbridge) to introduce Enfission LLC (Enfission) to the NRC. In addition to the organization introduction, key elements of the Lightbridge Fuel design and project plans where discussed.
Enfission is a 50-50 joint venture of Lightbridge and Framatome. The Lightbridge fuel design is an accident tolerant fuel concept that utilizes an extruded, solid metallic, helically-twisted, four lobed fuel rod with uranium enrichment up to 19.7 percent. Enfission believes that there are many benefits (e.g., thermal hydraulic, mechanical, and operational) to the design over the currently used ceramic uranium oxide fuel pellets encapsulated in cylindrical zirconium cladding. Enfission plans to insert a lead test rod, a lead test assembly, and a batch reload in a commercial reactor at varying intervals in the future.
