Dear Mr. O'eary:
On February 6, 1973, Mr. Gordon Dicker, Chief, Environmental Project Branch No. 2, forwarded to us the comments of Federal, State and local agencies in connection with the Draft Environmental Statement:'for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant Units 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Mr. Dicker's letter requested that the Company submit any appropriate"responses by February 26, 1973.
We have carefully reviewed all the comments received and will address those comments which appear to require clarification, additional information, or consideration of,plant design modifications.
Xn order to provide the Staff with all, the information necessary to complete, the environmental review of Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, we are planning to submit our responses as a complete package rather than address only a portion of the comments.
These responses require,a significanteffort on the part of the Company since design modifications 'are being evaluated.
We are presently evaluating modifications to the radwaste treatment systems.
We have had a meeting with the Envixonmental Protection Agency to discuss their comments and have'meetings schedule with officials of the State of North Carolina to discuss comments from the state agencies.
Based on the results of these meetings, we will submit our detailed responses by March 15, 1973.
We hope that this schedule is amenable to the needs of the Staff in completing th~nvironmental review for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant.'Q JAJ/bjw ggC Ge tto~CKO ~
