Muller; This is in response to youv letter, of Hay 16; 1973,'hich transmitted the Atomic Enevgy Commission's final statement, dated Nay 1973, on environmental considerations fov Shearon Huis Nucleav Power Plant, Units '1,'2, 3 and 4,. Nake 'and Chat?@m Counties', North Carolina.
The final statement does not reflect the Depavtment of the Interior's ccsgnents on the" discussion of cultural resources in the draft environ-mental statement.
Attention was called to the necessity of an avcheo-logical suxvey of the plant site to provide sufficient information on avcheological values tor descvibe them substantively as environmental features, outline impacts upon them, develop mitigating measuves if necessavy, and set forth any unavoidable adverse imgacts.
Simple reliance on correspondence ov published woxks, in the absence of a direct ezaaination of the'thun by trained professionals, does not constitute the'ort of interdisciplinary investigation of environmental vesouvces that is required by the National Environmental Policy Act.
