In reference to your ISE Circular 76-01, which discussed circuit modifications on crane hoist controls, we have done a review to determine if any of the identified concerns exist in the PVNGS design.
APS is presently in the process of procuring both the polar crane and the cask handling crane.
The specifications contain sufficient requirements for the bidders to insure that uncontrolled load drop does not take place.
For example, a requirement in the, specification requires that with the hook lowering the rated load, the uncontrolled drop in the event of a main power or control sys-tem failure should not exceed
.5 inch.
Additionally, the speci-fication requires that circuit diagrams of all electric equipment
, be submitted for review.
A part of this review will be to insure that brake power contactors are adequate for-the service.
- Also, the final version of the specification will contain a statement that the supplier shall insure the brake power contactors are ade-quate for the service specified.
We feel the above is adequate to insure that none of the problems identified in your circular will be present in the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station design.
