SUBJECT:
BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 REVIEW RE:
MAXIMUM EXTENDED LOAD LINE LIMIT PLUS (MELLLA+) LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST (EPID L-2016-LLA-0009)
Dear Dr. Corradini:
During the 655th meeting of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS), which took place July 11-13, 2018, the ACRS completed its review of the maximum extended load line limit plus (MELLLA+) license amendment request for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Units 1 and 2 (Brunswick), as well as of the associated draft safety evaluation prepared by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff.
The ACRS provided its report on the Brunswick MELLLA+ license amendment request to Chairman Kristine Svinicki in a letter dated July 19, 2018 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML18200A387). The NRC staff agrees with your recommendation that the agency should approve the proposed license amendment, subject to the limitations and conditions discussed in the staffs safety evaluation.
The NRC staff appreciates the ACRSs thorough review of this amendment request and the associated safety evaluation. The NRC staff recognizes the ACRSs commitment to safety and appreciates its continued support.
Sincerely,
/RA/
