Dear Mr. Engelken:
In reference to your IE Bulletin 78-01 which discussed flam-mable contact-arm 'retainers in G.E.
CR120A relays, we have completed a review to determine if the concern identified will be present at PVNGS.
We have reviewed our Balance of Plant equipment,and we have not specified any G.E. type CRl'20A relays for safety-related
.systems and equipment.
We will advise all suppliers of Class IE equipment of the problem associated with.this type of relay to prevent inclusion of it in the PVNGS plant.
We have also reviewed our Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) and we are not using any General Electric CR-120A relays but we are planning to use some CR-120B relays in"the-reactor trip switchgear.
Combustion Engineering (CE), our NSSS vendor, will contact General Electric to determine if the CR120B relays have similar problems as outlined in this bulletin.
We feel because of the timely identification of the problem with this relay, we will be able to exclude its use at PVNGS and will not be subject to the problems identified in this bulletin.
