lgyO DEPARTMENT OF 'TRANSPORTATION MAIIING ADDRESS:

,.'UNITED STATES COAST GUARD u.s. coAST GuARD(G-WS/73) 400 SEVENTH STREET SW.

WASHINGTON, D.C.

20590

>>DNE(202) 426-2262 1 0 JUN 1975 Mr. Wm. H. Regan, Jr., Chief Environmental Projects Branch 4 Division of Reactor Licensing Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555

Dear Mr. Regan:

This is in. response to your letter of 14 April 1975 addressed to Mz. Benjamin O. Davis concerning a draft environmental impact statement for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1, 2, and 3, Maricopa County, Arizona.

'Ihe concerned operating administrations and staff of the Department of Transportation have reviewed the material submitted.

The Federal Aviation Administration had the following comments to offer:

"While the exposure and frequency willnot be significant, there could be some increased hazard during aerial application of chemicals to agricultural crops that are located in the immediate vicinityof the trans-mission line corridors.

"Please be advised that the sponsor is required to file a notice with the FAA where determined applicable and as stipulated under Part 77 of the Federal Aviation Regulations. "

The Department of Transportation has no other comments to offer nor do we have any objection to this project.

The final environmental. impact statement,

however, should address the concern of the Federal AviationAdministration.

'Ihe opportunity to review this draft statement is appreciated.

Sincerely, DHL Acting Deputy Chief, Office of Marine Hnvironment and Systems By direction of the Commandant 850'
