ENFORCEMENT DISCRETION - SURRY UNIT 1 OFFICIAL COPY This letter confirms the telephone conversation between you and Mr. L. Reyes of my staff on October 19, 1989, granting enforcement discretion *for Surry Unit 1.
Our action was based on your verbal request on October 19 as documented in your letter issued on October 23.
The discretion provided a six-week period, ending on December 1, 1989, for Unit i to operate *with pressurizer safety relief valves lift settings potentially outside the 2485 psi g +/-1 percent requirement specified in the Technical Specifications.
Based on your request, we understand that during the six-week period, you will be maintaining compensatory measures described in your October 23 letter, and working with the Westinghouse Owners Group and the NRC to help develop a generic resolution to the issue.
