SAFETY EVALUATION FOR GENERIC LETTER 83-28, ITEM 4.5.2 (REACTOR TRIP SYSTEM RELIABILITY-ON-LINE TESTING) FOR SURRY POWER STATION, UNITS NO. 1 AND NO. 2 (TAC NOS. 54031 AND 54032)
Generic Letter 83-28, Item 4.5.2, required licensees and applicants with plants not currently designed to permit periodic on-line testing of the reactor trip system to justify not making modifications to permit such testing.
By letter dated November 4, 1983! Virginia Electric and Power Company (VEPCO) submitted a response to Generic Letter 83-28, Item 4.5.2.
Our enclosed Safety Evaluation finds the VEPCO response for Item 4.5.2 to be acceptable. Therefore, we find Item 4.5.2 to be completed by this action.
It is noted that both Items 4.5.2 and 4.5.3 of Generic Letter 83-28 have been followed by the NRC Technical Assignment Control (TAC) numbers 54031 and 54032 for Surry Units 1 and 2, respectively. Since Item 4.5.3 remains open, we are leaving both of these TACs open.
