e Surry Monthly Operating Report No. 98-07 Page 10 of 15 FACILITY CHANGES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE NRC APPROVAL MONTHNEAR: July, 1998 DCP 97-061 Design Change Package 07/13/98 (Safety Evaluation 98-013)

DCP 97-061, "Interim On-Line Chemistry Monitoring System," replaced the existing Westinghouse On-Line Chemistry Monitoring System computer components and software with a new system. The system is used to collect, store, and analyze secondary water chemistry. The interim system will be replaced with a permanent system with a future DCP.

TM S2-98-04 Temporary Modification 07/14/98 (Safety Evaluation 98-073)

Temporary Modification S2-98-04 was used to allow for the like-for-like replacement of a failed relay in the Unit 2 Train "A" reactor protection circuit. All work was performed in train "A" only with train "A" BYPASS breaker closed.

TM S1-98-15 Temporary Modification 07/18/98 (Safety Evaluation 98-074)

Temporary Modification S1-98-15 was used to install a remote gravity feed oil addition system to the upper reservoir of the 1-RC-P-1A motor to allow oil addition while reducing radiation exposure required for this activity.

JCO 97-006, Rev.1 Justification for Continued Operation 07/30/98 (Safety Evaluation 98-076)

Safety Evaluation 98-076 evaluated whether an unreviewed safety question existed regarding changes to JCO 97-006. The JCO implemented compensatory actions for Thermo-Lag 330-1 material used as radiant energy shields in the containments. The changes to the JCO included; (1) additional information and clarification for Resistance Thermometer Detector monitoring, P-250 address points, and conditional compensatory actions; (2) instructional guidance for the adjustment of P-250 containment temperature high alarm limits; (3) added reference to an improved method for measuring P-250 input data if both P-250 computers become inoperable; and (4) revision of an annunciator procedure clarifying a reference to radiant energy shields.

Operating Procedure 2-0P-TM-005, "Unit Ramping Operations," was changed to provide a method of repair for the Main Turbine #2 Governor Valve that involved power reduction and an alternate method of closing the valve. The revision to the Safety Evaluation was to include a letter from Westinghouse analyzing destructive overspeed criteria. The letter stated that there was no concern if the valve was repaired within six days.

1-ISP-LM-T-001 Electrical Corrective Maintenance Procedure 07/06/98 2-ISP-LM-T-001 (Safety Evaluation 98-072)

Instrument Surveillance Procedures 1-ISP-LM-T-001 and 2-ISP-LM-T-001, "Containment Temperature Monitoring When Both P-250 Computers Are Inoperable," were written to provide temporary power for the P-250 power supplies when both power supplies are inoperative.

O-OSP-EG-001 Operations Surveillance Procedure 07/23/98 1-0SP-EG-001 (Safety Evaluation 98-075) 2-0SP-EG-001 Operations Surveillance Procedures O-OSP-EG-001, 1-0SP-EG-001, and 2-0SP-EG-001, for emergency diesel generators 3,2, and 1 respectively, "Emergency Diesel Generator Local Alarm Panel Functional Test," were developed to perform a functional test of the Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) local alarm panels. The EDG will be removed from service during testing.
