SUMMARY
OF A PUBLIC MEETING WITH SOUTHERN NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY ON MAY 24, 2018 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 1 public meeting with Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) on May 24, 2018. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues associated with the safety review of licensing actions for SNCs Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP) Units 3 and 4.
The meeting notice can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML18110A127. The meeting notice is also posted on the NRC public website. Enclosures 1 and 2 are the meeting agenda and attendance list for the meeting, respectively. The other documents referenced during the discussion can be found at the ADAMS Accession Nos. given below:

J. Dixon-Herrity Summary of Meeting:
On May 24, 2018, staff from the NRC conducted a public meeting with representatives from SNC to discuss issues associated with the safety review of licensing actions for SNCs VEGP Units 3 and 4. Specifically, the meeting discussed draft RAI responses regarding LAR 17-037.
The staff discussed the draft RAI responses, specifically RAI LAR 17-037-8 and RAI LAR 17-037-9. Regarding RAI LAR 17-037-8, the staff asked SNC to clarify whether or not the proposed Criterion 2 will be used to address any change to the Diverse Actuation System (DAS) design processes in WCAP-17184 Technical Report. SNC stated that since WCAP-17184 is a Tier 2 document, the existing Tier 2 change process would continue to be applied and noted that the process described in LAR 17-037 only applies to information designated as Tier 2*.
The staff stated that they understood SNCs clarification. Regarding Question 5 of RAI LAR 17-037-9, the staff asked SNC if the footnote 6 referenced in Criterion 4 also applied to Criterion 3. SNC noted that the footnote 6 is intended to clarify the use of the terms adverse and design function and does apply to both Criterion 3 and Criterion 4. SNC noted that they would revise the response when they formally submit to clarify that the footnote applies to both Criterion 3 and Criterion 4.
At the end of each topic discussed and before closing the open portion of the meeting, there was an opportunity for the public to provide comments and ask questions. There were no comments or questions from members of the public.
