SUBJECT:
TRENDS AND PATTERNS PROGRAM REPORT - OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE FEEDBACK ON MAIN FEEDWATER FLOW CONTROL AND BYPASS VALVES AND VALVE OPERATION LETTER DATED 9/17/87 (AEOD/P.701)
The subject report identifies that Surry had a major problem in feedwater systems during the period 1984 - 1985 and recommends a special inspection in this area as a followup to this study.
VEPCO has recognized this problem and has taken steps to improve their maintenance program.
Significant improvement has occurred as indicated by a reduction in the number of scrams during the past year; however, we do not believe that VEPCO has achieved the quality of maintenance desired at Surry.
We recommend that the requested inspection be combined with an overall maintenance team inspection, and scheduled during the Spring 1988 refueling outage for Surry 1.
