RESULTS OF PERIODIC REVIEW OF REGULATORY GUIDE (RG) 1.102, FLOOD PROTECTION FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS This memorandum documents the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) periodic review of Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.102, Revision 1, Flood Protection for Nuclear Power Plants. The RG was issued in September 1976, and describes an acceptable approach for flood protection at nuclear power plants. As discussed in Management Directive 6.6, Regulatory Guides, the NRC staff reviews RGs approximately every 10 years to ensure that the RGs continue to provide useful guidance. Documentation of the NRC staff review is enclosed.
Based on the results of the periodic review, the staff concludes that a revision to RG 1.102, Revision 1 is warranted. The staff plans to develop a draft guide by the end of the fourth quarter of FY 2018, and issue it for public comment in the second quarter of FY 2019.
