Dear Dr. Vollmer:
March 20, 1987 Thank you for your letter of February 27 to Professor Yu-Hao Lee, concerning the information on pipe rupture event of Surry Nuclear Power Plant.
We are currently taking the same action as NRC in searching records of maintenance for events relating to erosion corrosion problems at the three nuclear plants at Taiwan.
I will send you a copy of the report for your reference as soon as the report is ready.
One step ahead of record searching, we are reviewing the screening criteria under development by Taipower for establishing ultrasonic measurement points at susceptible erosion locations.
According to ~he meeting minutes issued by Mr. Robert J. Bosnak (Chief, Engineering Issues Branch) to Mr. Themis P. Speis (Director, Div. of Safety Review and Oversight) dated January 30, 1987, a screening criteria has been developed by Virginia Power for their in-house use.
I wonder whether such document has yet been made available to all concerns.
I would appreciate your providing us with any information you might have.
