Subject:
Surry Power Station, Unit 2, Inservice Inspection Program For The Second 10 Year Interval {April 28, 1983 - April 28, 1993)
By letter dated December 22, 1982, the Virginia Electric and Power Company (VEPCO) submitted a proposed Inservice Inspection Program description and request for relief from inspection requirements pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(g) for Surry Power Station, Unit No. 2.
This program is for the 10 year inspection period beginning April 28, 1983.
We have reviewed your request for relief from the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (the Code).
Based on our review, we have granted relief from the examination requirements which we have determined to be impractical to perform, and by granting relief, would not compromise the safety of the facility.
We have also denied relief in four cases where the necessary findings could not be made.
In these cases, VEPCO may provide additional justification or information to support a new request for relief. However, the relief may not be implemented prior to review and approval by the NRC.
Our Safety Evaluation is enclosed.
We have determined that where stated, the Code requirements are impractical, and pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(g){6)(i), the granting of this relief is authorized by law and will not endanger life or property or the common defense and security, and is otherwise in the public interest considering the burden that could result if they were imposed on your facility.
