CONFIRMATION OF CONCURRENCE - SURRY UNIT 1 280
.1£ FIL£ C'-., Jpy This refers to your letter, serial 665 of November 16, 1984, describing the interim oil leak collection arrangement you have provided for "B" Reactor Coolant Pump Motor and compensatory measures you have committed to take to mitigate the effects of an oil leak or fire if either were to occur.
This also refers to several subsequent telephone conversations between our staffs, principally involving Mr. Elrod and Mr. Wiseman of my staff and Mr. Hegner of your staff, which confirmed the details of your compensatory measures described in the letter.
Based upon the matters presented and reviewed by the NRC Region II fire pro-tection staff, and after consultation with the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation fire protection staff and project manager, we do not anticipate an increased safety hazard during your interim period of operation which you state could possibly extend until the next refueling of the unit.
We will examine the implementation of these commitments during future inspections.
