Surry Power Station - NPDES Permit Exception
Dear Mr. Jenkins:
This is to confirm the NPDES permit exception at our Surry Power Station that was reported to you on Novenber 9, 1984.
On Novenber 7, 1984, a four hour composite sarrple was collected for total suspended solids (TSS) at outfall 008, the sewage treatrrent plant.
Subsequent analysis on Novenber 8, 1984 revealed that the maximwn TSS measured was 51.3 rrg/1.
This exceeded our permit limit of 45 rrg/1.
The apparent cause of this exception was an increased hydraulic load at peak flow times.
'Ihis is due to extra personnel being on site during the current refueling outage.
In addition, the plant is still undergoing recovery following the addition of foretgn substances during October.
Corrective action had included daily wasting of clarifier sludge and additions of a synthetic seed to increase microorganism activity.
