ENCLOSURE 1 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REQUESTED ASME SECTION XI RELIEF REQUESTS SURRY UNITS 1 AND 2 With regard to your request for relief from the 100% surface t'!xamination required for the Surry Unit 1 nonregenerative letdown heat exchanger integrally welded supports:

a.

Describe the surface conditions.that necessitated extensive weld preparation.

b.

State whether you have or can perform a satisfactory ASME Section XI (74575), Subsection IWA-2210 visu~l exam\\nation of 100% of the subject support weld and the adjacent heat affected zone.

c.

State why you consider the required examination to be code category C-E-1 rather than C-C.

d.

Provide additional detail with regard to the weld configuration,. the obstructions that prevented weld preparation (shielding and physical),

and the extent of your surface examination.

Utilize a sketch or sketches.

e.

State whether the shielding you* refer to as providing obstruction to weld preparation was necessary to the preparation work or examination or if it had been installed for other reasons.

With regard to your request for relief from post repair hydrostatic test requirements following installation of valve 2-MS-76 in Surry Unit 2:

a.

Provide additional details dnd data with regard to the extent of system

_leakage and the inability of your pumps to cope w1th this leakage and achieve the required hydrostatic test pressure.

Provide pump curves if they may aid you in your explanation.

b.

What is the design temperature for the piping in question?

c.

Wnat is the lowest pressure setting among the safety or relief valves*

provided for overpressure protecti 011 w1 chin the boundary of the piping that was required to be included in the test?

d.

Provide a legible copy of your drawing 11548-FM-64A.
