INSTALLATION SCHEDULE FOR APPENDIX R TO 10CFR50, SECTION III.G.3 SURRY POWER STATION UNIT NO. 2 In our letter dated December 31, 1982 (Serial No. 728), Vepco provided the installation schedule for the Appendix R modifications for Surry Units 1 and

2. Specifically, the installation schedule for Unit 2 was October, 1984.

This schedule was consistent with 10CFR50.48(c)(4) which requires installation during the first refueling outage beginning at least 180 days after NRC approval (reference NRC letter dated November 18, 1982). The 180 day period ends May 17, 1983. However, the outage schedule for Surry Unit 2 has been revised. The refueling outage previously scheduled for May 1, 1983 is now scheduled to commence approximately June 17, 1983. This refueling outage would then become the first refueling outage after May 17, 1983 for Surry Unit 2.

As stated in our December 31, 1982 letter, our engineering and procurement schedules for the Appendix R modifications are based on the 1984 refueling date. Vepco requests an exemption to 10CFR50.48(c) (4) to allow Appendix R modifications for Surry Unit 2 to be completed during the 2nd refueling outage after May 17, 1983.
