e VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY RICHMOND, VIRGINIA 23261
- w. L. STEWART VICE PRESIDENT NUCLEAR OPERATIONS March 9, 1983 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attn:
Mr. Steven A. Varga, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 1 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555 Gentlemen:
Serial No. 085B NO/WDC:acm Docket Nos. 50-280 50-281 License Nos. DPR-32 DPR-37 VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF SAFETY RELATED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT SURRY POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 This letter supplements our previous letters dated February 23, 1983 and March 2, 1983 with additional information concerning the reactor coolant system wide range pressure transmitters.
With regard to transmitters, Vepco participated in the qualification test program conducted by Wyle Laboratories of Rosemount Model 1153 Series D transmitters for the Utility Transmitter Qualification Group (UTQG).
This qualification program tested the Model 1153 Series D transmitters for IEEE-323-1974 and IEEE-344-1975 qualification.
Although testing has been completed, the Qualification Test Report has not yet been issued.
Based on present schedules, the final report should be available by May 31, 1983.
A qualification report summary has been issued by Rosemount.
This summary demonstrates that the Rosemount Model 1153 Series D pressure transmitters successfully completed the qualification test program and documents the justification for qualification of all Model 1153 Series D transmitters by similiarity of type.
The Model 1153 Series D transmitters being installed in Surry Power Station are of the type tested by Wyle Laboratories for the UTQG.
As stated in our March 2, 1983 letter, other means of assessing reactor coolant system pressure exist.
Until the qualified transmitters are installed, a Standing Order is in place to make operators aware of the other means for determing reactor coolant system pressure.
