This refers to the routine inspection conducted by Mr. D. L. Andrews of this
office on October 30-31, 1981, of activities authorized by NRC Operating License
Nos. DPR-32 and DPR-37 for the Surry facility and to the discussion of our
findings held with Mr. R. H. Leasburg, Vice President of Nuclear Operations, at
the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during the inspection and our findings are discussed in the
enclosed inspection report .. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of
se 1 ecti ve exami nati on5- of procedures and representative records, i nterviev,s with
personnel, and observations by the inspectors.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations or deviations were disclosed .
However, areas to consider for improvement were identified during this exercise
by the inspectors, and these are noted in the enclosed report.
Your evaluation of
these improvement areas and similar items identified by your observers will be
reviewed during a subsequent inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), a copy of this letter and the enclosure(s)
will be placed in the NRC
1s Public Document Room unless you notify this office,
by telephone, within ten days of the date of this letter and submit written
application to withhold information contained therein within thirty days of the
date of this letter. Such application must be consistent with the requirements
of 2.790(b)(l).
Should you have any questions concerning this letter, we will be glad to discuss
them with you.
