50-280 50-281 DPR-32 DPR-37 We have reviewed your October 8, 1981 letter on the above subject and are hereby submitting the following information as requested.
- 1.
A change to the technical specifications has not been prepared as we intend to supply qualification data on the subject purge valves as referenced in the Safety Evaluation.
This data is pending certain vendor supplied information and it is projected that qual-ification can be verified by March 1, 1982.
Until proof of qualifi-cation is obtained, our prior commitment to purge only at cold shutdown remains valid.

A six month periodic test will be established to test the 36 inch containment purge valves to verify seal integrity.
Please note that currently these valves cannot be pressurized except through fittings on blank flanges installed each refueling to perform type C testing.
Therefore, some hardware modifications are re-quired prior to implementing a six month leakage test. A proposed Technical Specification change will be prepared and submitted on or about January 1, 1982.
Additionally, the purge valves at Surry are 36 inch rather than 42 inch as referenced in Enclosure 2,Section II and the 8 inch steam jet air ejector valve has been excluded. The steam jet air ejector valve does not employ a resilient seal as referenced by your Safety Evaluation Report.
