v Your letter dated November 18, 1980, stated that you cannot provide a redundant safety grade reactor coolant system pressure input to the core subcooling monitors by January 1, 1981.

You had committed to provide this system in your letter dated April 1, 1980. The original Surry plant design has a single wide range reactor coolant pressure signal. You stated in your letter that the required electronics will not be avail-able from your NSSS vendor until early 1981 and that the system will be installed on Surry Unit 2 during the spring maintenance outage currently scheduled for May 1981. Surry Unit l is currently shutdown for the steam generator repair outage and the system will be installed prior to startup. Since January 1, 1980, the subcooling monitors have been operational with a single wide range reactor coolant pressure input and the process com-puter as backup. This system will continue to operate until the redundant system is installed. Based on the above discussion, we find that you have shown good cause for changing your implementation date for the redundant system. We do expect you to install it on the schedule indicated. cc: See next page Sincerely, @rlginal signed by Steven A.
