Dear Mr. Denton:

Serial No. 931 NO/ESG:ms Dockets Nos. 50-280 50-281 50-338 50-339 License Nos. DPR-32 DPR-37 NPF-4 NPF-7 In response to NUREG-0737, the following information relative to items II.K.3.9 and II.K.3.12 is submitted for Surry Units 1 and 2 and North Anna Unit 1.

This information was also previously provided for North Anna Unit 2 by our letter Serial No. 479, dated June 9, 1980.

Item ILK.3.9 The Westinghouse-recommended modification to the proportional integral deriva-tive (PID) controller should be implemended by affected licensees.

Response

North Anna Units 1 and 2 and Surry Units 1 and 2 are in compliance with this item.

The PID controllers on the pressurizer PORV have had their rate time constants set equal to zero, eliminating the time constants from consideration.

Item II.K. 3.12 Licensees with Westinghouse-designed operating plants should confirm that their plants have an anticipatory reactor trip upon turbine trip.

The licensee of any plant where this trip is not present should provide a concep-tual design and evaluation for the installation of this trip.

Response

North Anna Units 1 and 2 and Surry Units 1 and 2 are in compliance with this item.

There is currently an anticipatory reactor trip upon turbine trip.

If you require additional information, please contact this office.
